In 2017, a dog named Scout escaped from his shelter in the middle of the night and ran to the local nursing home. After he replicated this escape to the nursing home a few different times, the nursing home staff got together and decided to adopt Scout. They gave him a home in one of the units at the nursing home. For the past six years Scout has become a fixture, following staff as they make their rounds and checking in on residents of the facility. One of the residents said that Scout’s companionship brightens her days. Others said that having a dog makes the facility truly feel like home.
