Sometimes it takes so little. Jeff Balch realized that because one kind sentence stuck with him for more than 30 years. Jeff’s mom died of cancer at the age of 60 in 1992. When the trash collector inquired about Jeff’s mom just a few days later, Jeff informed him of his mom’s death. The man soon returned with a couple of co-workers, and they told Jeff that his mom was the kindest person on their entire route. Those kind words have reminded Jeff to treat everyone he encounters with the same kindness that caused three strangers to pass along condolences. As he says, “It’s all about perceiving the humanity in everyone we’re dealing with.” What a beautiful sentiment and a reminder that sometimes it takes so little.
