Finding Community

Last week’s Super Bowl didn’t turn out the way Chiefs fans hoped, but one fan is already looking forward to next year. Sports have the wonderful ability to bring people together from diverse backgrounds.  Robert Galicia found this out first hand.  Galicia moved to Kansas City from Mexico City in 1984 at the age of six.  When he moved, he didn’t speak any English and struggled to connect to the new world around him. But the Kansas City Chiefs became a connection point for him when someone struck up a conversation with Robert, who was wearing a Chiefs shirt, about the game the night before.  Robert’s fandom has gotten to the point that he opened a business that drives fans to Chiefs games. In the midst of a divisive world, Robert’s hope is to find unity through sports just as he experienced when he first moved to this country.
