Since March 2021, the city of Utrecht, Netherlands has implemented an innovative system to help migratory fish travel through the city’s water channels. This system is known as the fish doorbell. The fish doorbell works by having a livestream of the channel for viewers around the world to watch. When they see a fish, they press a virtual doorbell to alert the lock operator to open the canal door.
