People’s Kitchen

“Mom and Pop” restaurants have been hit particularly hard in the past year.  That was no different for this South Philly institution. They had to adapt their business model overnight and lay off some employees. But instead of just trying to keep their restaurant open, they realized they had an opportunity to help others in need by doing what they already do well. Making wonderful meals.  So they partnered with an organization to help serve restaurant quality meals to those in need. They also looked for other ways to assist those in need by helping people register to vote and be counted in the census.  Talk about full service!  This bottom up approach has opened the eyes of one of the owners to the ways in which restaurants, like many organizations, miss those on the margins.
