Candy!

Lieutenant Gail S. Halvorsen died a couple of weeks ago. He served in the Air Force and brought great joy to the children of Berlin. Lt. Halvorsen was know as the “candy bomber” for the candy he airdropped during the Berlin Airlift following World War II. In fact, he and his fellow pilots dropped 23 tons of candy. That’s a lot of sugar! During an interview, Lt. Halvorsen said, “The airlift reminded me that the only way to fulfillment in life, real fulfillment, is to serve others. I was taught that as a youth in my church, and I found when I flew day and night to serve a former enemy that my feeling of fulfillment and being worthwhile were the strongest that I’ve felt.” Click the link below to read his obituary.
