14-year-old Lauren Schroeder was volunteering at a local food bank when she noticed there were not a lot of fresh vegetables. She went home and told her parents that she wanted to start a garden on their farm. So she got to work researching the best vegetables to grow and then tended to them daily. Her first harvest produced 40 pounds of produce, but that was only the beginning. In the past two years, she has donated more than 7,000 pounds of produce to eight local food pantries. Lauren has seen first hand how much people appreciate her donations. Lauren says, “I’m learning a lot as I go, and I love giving back. I’m happy to do it. Everyone deserves to have something healthy to eat.” Click the link below to watch Lauren’s story.
