At a game in PNC Park, Jake Mangum tossed a ball into the crowd, and a boy reached out and caught it cleanly. A moment every kid dreams about. But almost instantly, he turned and placed it into the hands of his younger sister, who was wearing Mangum’s jersey. The first time the newly acquired Magnum had seen his jersey in the stands. Her face lit up with pure delight, and she wrapped him in a hug, while the people around them (including their dad) cheered not just for the catch, but for what came after. Magnum was asked about the gesture and said, “Seeing that, taking them to the ballgame, bringing their gloves, catching a ball. Stuff like that is how we all as professional baseball players fell in love with the game.” A small act of kindness that goes from Magnum throwing the ball into the stands to the brother who gave the ball to his sister and to his sister who can’t help but put her arms around her brother overcome by her sibling’s selfless act. A visible sign of how love works in the world. You just can’t help but share it with others. Click the link below to read about the catch.
