I was in a discussion group a couple of weeks ago, and the leader challenged us. She told us we should pay attention to events in the world and in our community and find ways to respond when we see wrongs. Look for ways to reach out. Look for ways to help. On my way home that day, I was listening to the radio and heard a news report about the response to an act of hate in Flagstaff, Arizona. Someone vandalized the Jewish Community Center there with swastikas. The community was shocked, but they also responded. Within days of the news, the fence around the building was covered with hearts. Hundreds of hearts. People responded. People reached out. People said you’re welcome here.
